Experience versus focus, evening the odds

I've spoke before about the unevenness between classes, in particular the fact that some classes can kill players many levels higher.

It does make sense that a spell like lightning can cause full damage (or even extra damage) on a warrior equipped with full plate armour.

On the other hand it doesn't make much sense that a warrior almost 10 levels higher can be killed by a lower level mage. This is especially true at higher levels. Consider how much experience divides a level 81 mage and a level 89 warrior. The gulf of experience is enormous, extremely enormous. One must really consider the huge gulf of experience when looking at a show down between high level characters. Consider the number of wizards who attempted to stop Conan... and failed.

So the question is how do you bridge the gulf between a wizard's lightning and a high level warrior?

One answer is ... magic. It could be magical armour, or it could be something like a sword scabbard with magical protection properties.

What it shouldn't be is something that reduces the existing armour of a warrior. It shouldn't be an item in which a warrior needs to reduce his armour class to be immune to lightning. Perhaps it's something limited to warriors of a certain level, or something that requires enchantment by elves or a wizard.

Chewbacca and Gremlin take me to over 80% experience

Big thanks to Gremlin and Chewbacca who took Tarq from 62% to over 80% experience in the graveyard this evening.

I posted earlier that I thought leveling is slow but better outside the graveyard than in other spots, but it's a lot quicker with a couple of others. At level 81 going up a level is slow progress, but with Gremlin and Chewbacca I was getting about 13k experience/minute (compared to between 3.3k - 4.6k outside the graveyard).

Tica leveling after level 40

Tica kill stats after red slime bout
I've already mentioned killing cave snakes is a good idea between levels 20 to 40, but it also appears to be one of the best methods to level after level 40.

I've noticed a slow down in Tica's ability to level. More powerful monsters like Mogguns, that give more experience, are too difficult for Tica as he's currently stated for a warrior.

Monsters lesser than cave snakes don't tend to spawn fast enough to equal the experience per minute - with one exception - the red slimes in the caves north of Hurnscald.

I did some kill stat analysis concentrating mostly on cave snakes and noticed Tica gets between 600 to 1000 exp / minute killing cave snakes. Killing red slimes resulted in about 900 exp / minute. The down side to killing red slimes is that Tica seems to take more damage from the red slimes - 8 to 9 hp per hit. Cave snakes hit with 2 - 3 points of damage, but take a little longer to kill. The up side of killing red slimes is they drop a variety of items that can be sold for gold.

For the next few levels Tica will be concentrating on upping the vitality stat.

Hello=) world and the case of the dying skulls

With 55 Dex and a similar amount of Strength I'm still very much toast against Fire and Poison Skulls. For the last number of levels I found fighting skulls quite frustrating, I seemed to miss them almost all the time, and if I got a pot shot or two in I ended up only getting between 250 - 500 experience per skull, hardly worth the amount of iron potions and healing items I was consuming... That was until the magic users switched from using Lightning to summoning maggots. The maggots would swarm the skulls doing minor damage allowing the fighters like me to swoop in and do some better damage, the result between 2000 and 4500 experience per skull, a remarkable difference! I'm not sure what the magic users were getting for experience, but I sure appreciated the amount of experience I was getting from the skull kills and the fact that the maggot distraction seemed to allow my fighter to hit more often.

Both Hello=) and Jim Morrison helped out a great deal.
